5G’s role in the transformation of communication
5G technology will be mostly available in 2020, it’ll be an innovative technology that will allow millions of people to be interconnected with immediate response time.
What will change versus 4G?
Currently, devices are interconnected through 4G, whose evolution was the 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) with a swiftness of data transmission of 100 megabits. With 5G we are talking about a speed almost 1,000 times greater than the one we currently use. Its importance though goes beyond, and presupposes further advances within Smart Cities, since it impacts in the way in which we connect with each other, and even in the way that businesses operate and function.
Understanding 5G in numbers
The speed of data transmission will get to 10 Gigabits per second
It will allow the interconnection of more than 50,000 million devices interconnected at the same time due to rapid response time.
5G will reduce the latency period (the time required to locate the first bit or character in a storage location, expressed as access time minus word time), in other words the time it takes since its transmission on a mobile terminal until it reaches its destination.
Currently it takes from 50 milliseconds to 1 millisecond.
The digital transformation
What are the pillars of 5G within this environment?
Big Data: For the proper functioning of cities, it will allow the transfer of millions of data delivered to devices, both in the public and private sectors, in a more efficient way.
Smart Cities: It will allow Smart Cities to handle more information. Currently with 4G the data transmission speed is between 100 and 1,000 times slower than 5G. Without 5G, Smart Cities wouldn’t be able to support such amount of information.
Connected Industry 4.0: Without the data transmission speed that 5G brings, it’s difficult to even think of the development of the 4.0 Industry that is currently changing to establish the foundations of the next fabrication processes.
5G is an innovative tool that will arrive in 2020 to revolutionize the telecommunications sector and the way in which our cities and media operate. Are you ready for this digital transformation?
